Tiroran is midway between Tobermory to the north and Iona (and onwards to Staffa) to the south and is under one hour away from both attractions, there are many fantastic beaches on Mull including Calgary to the north west and Uisken across the loch from Tiroran, Carsaig overlooks the paps of Jura and is one of the many spectacular views and landscapes of Mull
Tiroran rests at the foot of Benmore and this is the only Munro mountain on the island, we can give you advice about the best way to ascend and Ben Teallach mountain offers a less challenging climb where you might just find the remains of a WW2 dakota
The Fossil Tree (McCulloch’s Tree) is a fantastically scenic walk from Tiroran along the Ardmecanach Peninsula – The best place to start this walk is from the Whitetail coffee shop at the Steadings beside the hotel
Opportunities to take some of your best wildlife and scenic photographs are guaranteed with whatever you choose to do whilst here on Mull and especially driving along the west coast heading north from Tiroran, we can advise you and guide you in the right direction throughout your stay.

Just behind the hotel is the new Whitetail Gin Micro Distillery (installed winter 2018) where you can sample the various Isle of Mull gins made using botanicals and water form Tiroran – Whitetail Gin is a multi award winning gin launched in 2017 named after the White-tail Sea Eagles that are in abundance on the Isle of Mull – Strong, bold, yet smooth and light as a feather on the palate – The Whitetail Gin company are active social media users so you can keep up to date on their website and various pages for more information
Duart Castle – A beautiful 13th century keep location just out of Craignure open from April to October there is a clan Maclean exhibition, large grounds, a tea room and the great hall, all worth the 35 minute drive from Tiroran.
The Old Post Office Lochbuie Larder – A unique and beautiful place with a honesty shop selling local, seasonal and Isle of Mull produce
Tobermory Shops and Whisky Distillery – Tobermory has many artisan shops and cafes and can easily offer the opportunity to buy the odd item for your home or gifts for friends and family, we recommend the Isle of Mull Silver Shop, Soap Shop, galleries, Island Blue, Chocolate Shop and Pottery – all stock items made on the island and you will not be disappointed with lunch in the bar of the Tobermory Hotel or Cafe Fish
The whisky distillery lies within the main harbour and has been producing single malt whisky for over 200 years – it is one of the oldest commercial distilleries in Scotland.
Ardalanish Isle of Mull Weavers – Across the loch at Bunessan – Native Kyloe Highland cattle and Hebridean sheep are reared naturally and the sheep’s wool is used for weaving their unique and distinctive tweeds, a must visit place for its beautiful location, fantastic beach and shop.
Isle of Erraid – A tiny and beautiful tidal island close to Fionnphort which is a 45 minute drive from Tiroran – one of the locations featured in the novel Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson, David Balfour, the hero was marooned on this island having been shipwrecked on the Torran Rocks, Stevenson’s father was involved in the construction of the nearby lighthouses.
Isle of Mull Cheese – If you visit Tobermory whilst you stay with us this place is not to be missed, beautiful and tranquil with its own Glass Barn tea room and en route to Glengorm Castle, both locations offer great places to eat and stunning walking, however not to buy the Isle of Mull Cheese whilst visiting our island would surely be a sin as it is stocked in almost every good and great delicatessen including Fortnum & Masons and Harrods.
